How I became involved working
with the elderly community is
in part due to my mother. My mother
worked with elderly in the psychiatric
unit of the hospital. Many times
she would take me to work with
her when I was a teen, and I began
to volunteer. I enjoyed helping
people, and soon taking care of
seniors became my passion. I went
to nursing school for two years
and worked for the Red Cross in
Romania. After moving to California
twenty-three years ago, I worked
in the nursing home care giving
for many seniors. Later I worked
in the hospital in Washington
State where I acquired more knowledge
about the Dementia Disease. After
completing specialty training
for Dementia and Mental Health,
I knew what I wanted to do. I
became licensed by the state of
Washington to operate an Adult
Family Home and I took care of
many patients with Dementia, specifically
patients with the Dementia types
of Parkinson’s disease,
Vascular Dementia, Alzheimer disease,
Diffuse Lewy Body Disease and
Huntingtons Chorea types. I also
trained to take care of Developmental
Disability Resident’s and
took care of a few patients with
brain injury and mental retardation.
I have been blessed to have been
given the opportunity to care
for many special people in my
home, and will always remember
them. I decided it was time to
move to Texas where I could be
more involved with my family.
Currently my daughter in law and
I are now partners in caring for
seniors together, and hope to
do so for many years to come.

In our family we were raised with
our grandparents in our home.
We were taught to respect and
treat the elderly with kindness,
and to help when needed. Later
in life I began to have a passion
for helping seniors and have thought
about careers in this field. At
the age of eighteen years I had
been given the opportunity to
take care of an elderly woman
with mild Dementia. I built a
relationship with this elderly
woman and although she never remembered
my name, when she needed me she
called me her friend. I receive
great joy working with seniors,
and this lead me to expand my
knowledge in the Disease of Dementia.
I took a course in the Dementia
Specialty Training Program offered
in the State of Washington, and
completed my training as a Certified
Nurse Assistant. I also went to
a community college for nursing
and later my husband and I opened
an Adult Family Home (similar
to an Assisted Living Home in
TX). The home was wonderfully
managed by the help of my mother
in law Elena who also operated
a home for twelve years. I owned
and operated that home for six
years, and have enjoyed taking
care of many seniors whom I will
never forget. I believe that God
has a plan for me in Texas, and
he brought me to the Hill Country
for the purpose of providing great
senior care.
